Game Chef 2007 is Here!

Who among you is mighty enough to create an entire roleplaying game in two weeks?

Oh yeah?

Prove it!

Game Chef is an annual RPG design competition organized by the too-cool-for-school Andy Kitkowski, who also runs the Story Games RPG forum and founded the Indie RPG Awards (now run by John Kim). Over the years, Game Chef has had its rules tweaked a little, but the core idea has remained the same — there are two lists of four “ingredients” — words that must be incorporated into your game. Choose one list and, from that list, choose three of the four words as your ingredients.

When inspiration strikes, start writing.

Over the years, several Game Chef entries have been developed into critically acclaimed commercial (small press) products, and more are still in the works. Perhaps your entry will join Polaris, The Mountain Witch, The Shab al-Hiri Roach, Ganakagok and Carry on the shelves.

So get over to the Game Chef forums and “tap in” to the Game Chef 2007 competition.

P.S. I haven’t decided if I’m signing up yet, but I have an idea or two struggling for light in my brain.

About these ads
  1. Have you seen any of the entries from the previous years yet?

And if so, can you tell me where to find them? :-)

  2. You can find them at 1000 Monkeys, 1000 Typewriters. Note that these are all as they were submitted to the competition, and do not contain further refinements that may have been done afterward.

Additionally, Technomancer Press has published two “Best of Game Chef 2006″ collections, called Game Chef 2006: First Course (containing the top four finishers) and Game Chef 2006: Second Helping (containing four other entries). Again, these are basically published versions of the submitted PDFs. I own copies of these, sent to me by Technomancer Press after I mentioned the publication of First Course in an earlier post, and plan on doing reviews of some of the games in them.
